What do We Offer for our Websites?

Domain name web hosting gives your website a space on the Internet so people can find your website.

If you are reading this, you are probably in the process of a starting a website. There are one or two things you should learn before jumping into the online world. Besides, if you are going to make an entrance, you should do what you can to make a big splash!

Once you’ve built your website and secured a domain name, you need to bring the two together so that the general public can access your site. This is where domain name web hosting comes in.

Domain name web hosting is not something you do on your own, unless you are large company with the time and resources to do so. It can be quite difficult, as this basic checklist will show.

Things you need to host your own website

  • Technology skills.
  • A fast broadband connection that will support heavy traffic.
  • An efficient, high-quality computer that will run 24/7, and that will be used solely as a web server.

With all these requirements, it is no wonder that most individuals and businesses opt to go to providers who offer the best domain name hosting.

As a consumer, you’re in a good place, as many companies offer reliable and affordable domain name web hosting, and because of their capacity, they will give the public access to your domain all day and every day.

Your business web hosting plan needs to offer specific features to help you gain a competitive edge. After all, to be competitive, your business website should do more than simply provide visitors with information.

Server Hosting Providers

Looking for and contracting good server hosting providers is very challenging, a good web server hosting plan should include ample space for your website files. However, some server hosting services provide only the basic space and then charge for any additional. The additional space may be needed to deal with an increase in emails, programs, services, and other upgrades as your business grows.

Having a website that’s not always available on the Internet is pretty much useless. Therefore, you will need to choose a hosting provider that offers a guaranteed up-time. The speed at which your website can be accessed by your clients should also be an important factor to consider when looking for a good hosting provider. You should also weigh the quality of service, the features provided, and the accessibility of your website against what you are paying.

Cheap web hosting services are all over the internet today. To make sure you do not regret your decision later, or incur more costs than necessary, it is important to decide from the onset whether you really need the cheap hosting services or something more.

It is very important to look beyond the price of your cheap web hosting plan and consider other relevant factors or features you may need. A cheap hosting plan may mean a lot of things at the end of the day. The service quality may be lower if at all existent. You may contract a cheap website hosting plan and realize that your website is not at all accessible on the Internet. You may also realise that most of the times, your service is down and you cannot access your website. Nothing good for business.

It is unwise to commit to a cheap hosting plan, to only realise later that you were duped into a plan that does not suit your needs.

Types of Hosting

  • Free web hosting service: is a web hosting service that is free, usually advertisement-supported. Free webhosting that does not make use of advertising also exists; these often come with some limits on usage, however. Free web hosts will usually provide a sub-domain (yoursite.example.com) or a director (www.example.com/~yourname).
  • Shared web hosting service: one’s website is placed on the same server as many other sites, ranging from a few sites to hundreds of websites. Typically, all domains may share a common pool of server resources, such as RAM and the CPU. The features available with this type of service can be quite basic and not flexible in terms of software and updates. Resellers often sell shared web hosting and web companies often have reseller accounts to provide hosting for clients.
  • Virtual Dedicated Server: also known as a Virtual Private Server (VPS), divides server resources into virtual servers, where resources can be allocated in a way that does not directly reflect the underlying hardware.
  • Managed hosting service: the user gets his or her own Web server but is not allowed full control over it (user is denied root access for Linux/administrator access for Windows); however, they are allowed to manage their data via FTP or other remote management tools. The user is disallowed full control so that the provider can guarantee quality of service by not allowing the user to modify the server or potentially create configuration problems. The user typically does not own the server. The server is leased to the client.
  • Dedicated hosting service: dedicated server, or managed hosting service. This is more flexible than shared hosting. The key difference is the level of administrative and engineering support that the customer pays for – owing to both the increased size and complexity of the infrastructure deployment. The provider steps in to take over most of the management, including security, memory, storage and IT support. The service is primarily proactive in nature. Server administration can usually be provided by the hosting company as an add-on service. In some cases a dedicated server can offer less overhead and a larger return on investment. Dedicated servers are most often housed in data centres, providing redundant power sources and HVAC systems. The server hardware is owned by the provider and in some cases they will provide support for operating systems or applications.

Using a dedicated hosting service offers the benefits of high performance, security, email stability, and control. Due to the relatively high price of dedicated hosting, it is mostly used by websites that receive a large volume of traffic. Operating system support may include updates to the core system in order to acquire the latest security fixes, patches, and system-wide vulnerability resolutions. Updates to core operating systems include kernel upgrades, service packs, application updates, and security patches that keep server secure and safe. Operating system updates and support relieves the burden of server management from the dedicated server owner.
